São
Paulo Fashion Week
At the last catwalk show of SPFW Summer 2007 edition,
Cavalera opened this day with a promising menswear show at Interlagos
Racing Track, but the label’s womenswear collection presentation
was a far cry from last season’s show at Ipiranga Museum.
On the catwalk, six naked models, lying on small dunes on a
mirrored floor represent the label’s motto: “People
do not die on the beach” – “to die on the
beach” is a Brazilian saying, which we employ when you
try and try to do something and almost get there, but eventually
fail.

Ethanol
Fuel In Brazil Is Hot
In Brazil, ethanol fuel is produced from sugar cane which is
a more efficient source of fermentable carbohydrates than corn
as well as much easier to grow and process. Brazil has the largest
sugarcane crop in the world, which, besides ethanol, also yields
sugar, electricity, industrial heating and the alcoholic beverage
cachaça. Sugar cane growing requires little labor, and
government tax and pricing policies have made ethanol production
a very lucrative business for big farms. As a consequence, over
the last 25 years sugarcane has become one of the main crops
grown in the country.
